Hold Musk and Tesla
accountable for toxic spill
Neighbors for Environmental and Social Justice (NESJ) has filed suit against Elon Musk and
Tesla for dumping toxic chemicals into Palo Alto's Matadero Creek system.
More than 900 gallons of sodium hydroxide, commonly known as lye, and other fluids, were
released in an effort to cool an AI supercomputer at Tesla's Palo Alto facility Oct. 17, 2024.
Neighbors want Tesla held responsible for damages and removed from the site. NESJ is callingon Palo Alto and Stanford University to uphold their environmental principles and “cleanindustry” pledge, respectively, and submit amicus briefs.
Stanford is currently suing Xerox, a previous tenant, for contaminating the soil in Research
Park. Palo Alto, on the other hand, has provided cover for the perpetrators of the 2024 spill and denied the seriousness of their actions," says NESJ founder and campaign organizer Henry Etzkowitz. It has not taken steps to enforce the totally inadequate $750 fine that Musk and
Tesla allegedly refuse to pay.
